Shining as opposite in Ateneo, AC Miner builds confidence for pro leap

Riding high on the momentum of a stellar final UAAP season, Ateneo de Manila University’s AC Miner is determined to elevate her game as she makes the leap to the Premier Volleyball League.

Miner, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker, shared that the confidence she gained while playing as an opposite hitter during the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament was the key factor in her decision to declare for the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft.

“Part yung na-gain ko na confidence coming from this season as an opposite.

“Yun na lang yung nagiging hadlang para mag-join ako ng draft is yung confidence na kaya kong mag-improve to the next level sa volleyball career ko and yung skills ko rin,” Miner said during Day 1 of the Rookie Combine held at the Paco Arena last Friday.

The 22-year-old capped off an impressive final year with the Blue Eagles by seamlessly switching between two positions, ultimately finishing as the league’s eighth-best scorer with 198 points — built on 172 attacks, 21 blocks, and five aces.

She also ranked sixth in spiking efficiency with a 35.39% success rate and placed fourth among middle blockers with 153 positional points.

Although she’s listed as a middle blocker in the draft, the Far Eastern University-Diliman product noted that her final position will depend on the team that selects her.

What’s certain, though, is that no matter the role she’s given, she’s ready to embrace it and prove she belongs on the professional stage.

“I signed up as a middle lang this year pero if gagawin akong opposite ng team, then we’ll see,” Miner said.

“I look forward to learning more skills sa team na mapupuntahan ko and to improve myself, not just on the court but also outside of it.”
