It looks like Rain or Shine’s young guns are getting their groove back.
After Rey Nambatac delivered a career-best scoring performance in their conquest of Ginebra last Friday, the Elasto Painters received a solid outing from Javee Mocon when they faced Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters Sunday.
The rookie out of San Beda scattered 15 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks in nearly 34 minutes of action to help Rain or Shine notch its second straight win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, 89-82.
“Javee played his heart out today.
“I think it’s one of his good games also this conference,” lauded Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia of Mocon, who was averaging just 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds prior to Sunday.
Mocon though gave credit to his coaches and his teammates for his impressive performance, particularly to import Denzel Bowles, who has been a steady figure for the team — the former Best Import had 28 and 14 in the victory.
“Talagang pinupush nila ako, mga teammates ko, my coaches — especially si Denzel. What I like about Denzel is talagang he’s committed to the team, nagsasalita siya ‘pag gusto niya, he watches the films,” Mocon said.
And it also helped that the whole Elasto Painters’ confidence received a major boost when they beat the Justin Brownlee-led Gin Kings, the defending champs of the conference, said RoS’ sixth pick in the 2018 Rookie Draft.
“We won against Ginebra, that’s a strong team,” he said.
“Tapos na-boost na yung confidence namin going into this game.”
