“The 30th Southeast Asian Games will push through.”
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez made this declaration in a press briefing held in Manila, Thursday.
Facing the media in the wake of a leadership change in the Philippine Olympic Committee this week and news about a possible rescheduling of the biennial meet, Ramirez reported that he met with Executive Secretary Medialdea who relayed the President’s instructions to the sports chief.
He adds that, “the President is aware of the issues but directed us to keep our focus on the athletes and let the others sort out their issues within their ranks.
“We must isolate our athletes from all these issues so they can focus on their mission,” said Ramirez who is also the Chef de Mission of Team Philippines in the SEAG. In his statement he also said that the PSC commits to remain resolute on its purpose to guide and support Team Philippines.
Reiterating his call to unity, he called on all concerned to unite âfor the sake of our athletes, letâs focus our one-hundred-percent on the big tasks at hand.”
Ramirez is set to host a fellowship assembly between the NSAs, national coaches and athletes on July 5.
