PSL: Sta Rosa cools down Caloocan, rises to fourth


STA. Rosa Laguna downed Batang Kankaloo-Caloocan 72-64 last Thursday night to get back on track in the Manila Bankers Life-Pilipinas Super League Pro Division Second Conference Dumper Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando.

Jeramer Cabanag fired 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lions, while John Nermal chipped in 18 markers, nine boards, and one assist.

The win allowed Sta. Rosa to bounce back from a 61-85 loss to Pampanga Royce Hotel last Saturday and improved to 9-3 for fourth.

The Koolers, coming off back-to-back wins that included a 125-102 drubbing of 1Munti also last Saturday, fell to 9-4 in the cage wars presented by Dumper party-list, Winzir, and Skin Care Depot, co-presented by SCD Cosmetics, and supported by NET 25, Adcon, Wcube Solutions Inc., MDC, Unisol, Don Benitos, and Finn Cotton, with PBA and Gilas Pilipinas great Marc Pingris serving as Commissioner.

In the other game, Marcy Arellano notched the conference’s first triple-double of 12 points, 10 caroms, and 11 dimes as Manila tripped San Pedro Laguna-ARS 112-105 to climb to 7-6.

Macky Acosta led the Citystars with 29 markers and 18 rebounds, while Clark Bautista (21), Rence Alcoriza (18), Jason Mancao (11) and Levi Dela Cruz (11) also did their part.

The Warriors slumped to 2-11.

Gabby Espinas was the lone bright spot for Caloocan with 14 points.

Eduard Doroteo paced San Pedro with 32 points and five boards, while Danny Diocampo added 17 markers.

Jan Formento, Charles Collano, Erwin Tangunan, and Wowie Kadir also got 14, 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively for the Warriors.
