PLDT signs Wilma Salas for AVC club tilt

Wilma Salas is preparing to reinforce the PLDT High Speed Hitters as one of their imports in the upcoming 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League.

The High Speed Hitters officially announced the acquisition of the 34-year-old Cuban wing spiker on Thursday morning.

A familiar name in Philippine volleyball, Salas brings a wealth of experience and firepower to the squad.

“Wilma Salas arrived in the Philippines last night and is set to join the PLDT High Speed Hitters in training and play for the squad in the AVC Women’s Champions League starting April 20,” the team shared in a social media post.

PLDT, the third Philippine club participating in the continental tournament, is grouped in Pool D alongside Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC and Australia’s Queensland Pirates.

The tournament, which runs from April 20 to 27 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, will also feature fellow PVL teams Creamline and Petro Gazz.

Salas first made waves in the Philippines back in 2019 when she led Petro Gazz to its maiden PVL championship in the Reinforced Conference. She was later named Best Foreign Player of that tournament.

She returned to the Angels in the 2024 Reinforced Conference, where the team settled for a sixth-place finish.

PLDT still has one world import slot open, as Savi Davison is still considered a foreign reinforcement by the AVC due to her incomplete transfer documents.
