PFL sets conditions to clubs for 2021 season

The Philippines Football League, along with the Philippine Football Federation, have met with the league’s clubs regarding the start of its 2021 season last October 1.

In the meeting headed by PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes and PFL commissioner Coco Torre, officials laid out the prerequisites for the league to begin on October 27 in a closed circuit setup (home-venue-home) at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

First off, Carmona, Cavite must be under general community quarantine or its equivalent by October 16. Currently, Cavite comes under modified enhanced community quarantine.

Secondly, there must be six confirmed clubs for the season to begin.

Seven clubs are currently looking to take part, namely reigning champions United City, Kaya-Iloilo, the Azkals Development Team, Stallion Laguna, Maharlika Manila, Mendiola 1991. Meanwhile, Dynamic Herb Cebu will join based on the premise of a provisional license.

“PFF is committed to having the PFL 2021 season this year when conditions permit,” said Gastanes.

“We understand how also important the league is for the clubs, sponsors, and football fans.”

Clubs were encouraged to ensure players are match-fit upon the targeted kick-off date. In addition, clubs must provide the league with their proposed accommodation venues for the bubble setup, with provisions for health and safety protocols imposed while inside the bubble.

“The PFL season 2021 kickoff remains a primary objective,” added Torre.

“The staging of the season will help preserve the livelihood of the players, staff, officials and determine the League Standings based on sporting merit.”

Full live stream coverage and TV details to be announced as the League finalizes talks with a TV network.
