PFL: Kaya-Iloilo reaches seventh heaven with trashing of Mendiola ’91


Kaya-Iloilo returned to the top of the 2022-2023 Philippines Football League in impressive fashion with a 7-0 win over Mendiola 1991, Sunday, at the City of Imus Grandstand in Cavite.

Yu Hoshide’s men rached to a three-goal cushion in the first half. Robert Lopez-Mendy opened the floodgates two minutes into the contest while Audie Menzi and Daizo Horikoshi scored a goal each in the 21st and 29th minutes.

Come the second half, Eric Ben Giganto continued Kaya-Iloilo’s dominance with a goal in the 55th minute while Lopez Mendy secured his brace with a penalty in the 63rd minute.

Ryo Fujii and Jhan Jhan Melliza rounded up Kaya’s scorers in the 67th and 84th minutes respectively.

The result allows Kaya-Iloilo to return to the top spot with 21 points on the back of seven wins, two losses and a goal difference of +20.

On the other hand, Mendiola remains in sixth place with three points behind one win and nine defeats.
