PFL: Horikoshi scores brace vs Cebu as Kaya-Iloilo seals CPA first place

Behind Daizo Horikoshi’s two goals, Kaya-Iloilo was able to clinch first place in the 2022 Copa Paulina Alcantara elimination round with a resounding 3-0 victory over Dynamic Herb Cebu, Thursday evening at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

The result means that Kaya-Iloilo enters the semifinals on top with 16 points while Dynamic Herb Cebu finishes beneath them in second place with 13 points.

Coach Yu Hoshide’s men enjoyed a great start to the game, which set the tone for everything. Patrick Arthur unleashed a fantastic free-kick at the 14th minute to give his side the lead.

Soon after, Daizo Horikoshi was fouled in the Cebu box and he took up the duty to convert the spot-kick. He then shot past goalkeeper Ace Villanueva to give Kaya-Iloilo a two-goal cushion before the halftime break.

Horikoshi, though, was not done yet. The 26-year-old midfielder capped off a fine sequence to score his second goal of the match in the 59th minute.

Kaya-Iloilo XI: Banzon (GK), Arthur, Diano, Melliza, Fujii, Gayoso, Horikoshi, Rota, Felongco, Menzi, Lopez Mendy.

Dynamic Herb Cebu XI: Villanueva (GK), Okuda, Canas, Gadia, Genco, Uzoka, Cinkir, Corsame Jr, Saldivar, Dabao III, Ozcan.
