PFL: Bedic scores brace as Kaya-Iloilo romps Mendiola ’91

Kaya-Iloilo skipper Jovin Bedic scored twice as the LBC-backed club sealed a 6-1 win over Mendiola 1991 in the 2022-2023 Philippines Football League, Saturday evening, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Bedic’s team had to dig deep as they started the game on the wrong foot.

Mendiola 1991 midfielder Aron Altiche drew first blood for his side by finishing off a counterattack in the 21st minute.

Kaya then rose from its slumber just before the halftime break. Bedic leveled the contest with a header in the 40th minute while Eric Ben Giganto gave his team the lead with a fine strike in the 45+1 minute.

Come the second half, substitute striker Jarvey Gayoso gave Kaya a two-goal cushion when he rebounded Shirmar Felongco’s initial attempt in the 55th minute. Bedic then completed his brace in the 75th minute.

Despite the three-goal cushion, Kaya was not done yet as Daizo Horikoshi and Jhanjhan Melliza scored in the 89th and 92nd minutes respectively.

The result means that Kaya increases its tally to nine points behind three straight wins while Mendiola 1991 is yet to tally a point in the standings after as many losses.

Kaya will return to action against Maharlika Manila on August 28, 2022, at 4:00 PM with the venue of that match to be confirmed.

On the other hand, Mendiola will take on Maharlika Manila as well but on September 4, 2022, at 7:00 PM. The venue for this game will be the Imus City Grandstand in Cavite.
