Pagadian City will host the Mindanao leg of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup on June 22, league Chief Operating Officer Rocky Chan announced Saturday.
The tilt was supposed to open last May 17 in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic prompted the league to make adjustments.
“After the successful Visayas leg, ‘yung timetable for Mindanao, medyo nag-adjust kami ng kaunti due to the current situation,” the soft-spoken executive said during the One Chooks-to-Go press conference held virtually.
“It’s now official. For the Mindanao leg inaugural season, it will be hosted by Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur and it is set on June 22, 2021,” he added.
“Hopefully everything goes well [so] we will kick off on June 22.”
Pagadian Mayor Sammy Co had earlier made a bid to host the Grand Finals of the league. However, their newly constructed gym in Plaza Luz finished earlier than expected.
“We have a newly constructed venue. Sana yung VisMin yung maka-break in sa court natin,” said Co.
The Mindanao leg will be played inside a bubble similar to the Visayas stage, which took place at the Alcantara Civic Center in Cebu.
Pagadian City will also play in the tournament, marking its return to the cage scene since playing in the defunct Liga Pilipinas in the late 2000s.
The Explorers, also a one-time finalist in the National Basketball Conference, are one of the nine teams vying for supremacy in the region.
Basilan, JPC Zamboanga City, Clarin Sto. Nino, Kapatagan, Roxas, Alza Alayon Zamboanga, Iligan, and Misamis Oriental comprise the field.
The Mindanao leg champion will then face Visayas ruler KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue in a best-of-five bout for VisMin dominion.
