Owa Retamar is taking his talents to Cambodia after signing with Visakha for the Sar Kheng Cup, set from February 7 to March 1.
The Alas Pilipinas Men star left for Cambodia earlier today, four days after Cignal decided to take a leave of absence from the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.
“Accepting this invitation from Cambodia is my way of contributing to help sustain the visibility of Philippine men’s volleyball, especially amid the uncertainties surrounding our local teams,” Retamar said.
“I’m excited to learn from the environment there and contribute in the best way I can.”
Retamar is coming off a strong year with Alas Pilipinas, where he anchored the Nationals in solid campaigns in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
The 6-foot setter emerged as one of the top playmakers in the 32-nation world tilt and was one of the driving forces behind the Philippines’ surprising 19th-place finish.
He carried that form into the biennial meet, helping lead the country to a bronze medal— his second SEA Games podium finish after winning silver in the 2019 edition.
This marks Retamar’s first overseas club stint.
