ONIC PH stuns BREN Esports, advances to MPL Grand Finals

ONIC PH completed a huge upset, taking down the top-ranked BREN Esports, 2-1, to set up a rematch against defending champions Sunsparks in the Grand Finals of the SMART Mobile Legends Bang Bang Professional League-Philippines Season Five, Sunday.

With BREN taking the early advantage in Game Three, ONIC PH made sure to wait for the perfect moment to strike back.

And it clearly paid dividends for the MPL-PH Season Four runners-up.

Despite BREN putting all of its manpower in the lord pit, Dlar (Thamuz) was able to sneak into the backline and kill Ribo (Selena) which forced BREN to disperse to the bottom lane — paving the way for Wise (Karrie) to push BREN’s last turret at the top lane.

Pheww (Esmeralda), Coco (Pheww), Lastii (Grock) quickly went to their base to defend the throne, leaving KarlTzy (Granger) with no protection, falling prey to Jay (Natalia).
BREN then burned almost all of their skills to salvage the game, but Wise’s damage proved to be too much for them to handle.

Wise was the man of the hour for ONIC PH, tallying seven kills and two assists with no deaths while Dlar came in with another consistent performance of five kills and four assists. Jay proved to be a reliable sixth man once more, providing four kills and four assists.

KarlTzy poured three kills, four assists, along with four deaths for the BREN Esports side composed of Sibol Philippines’ roster. The loss denied Coco, Ribo, and Pheww a shot at a second MPL-PH title.

ONIC PH will face its finals tormentor in Sunsparks at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Finals.
