Continuing his string of stellar performances, Filipino strawweight Robin Catalan put on a masterful performance to start 2019, taking a dominant unanimous decision win over Indonesian bet Stefer Rahardian, Saturday evening at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.
With the win, Catalan improves to 8-5, winning three of his last four bouts.
The same could not be said about the Indonesian prospect (8-3), who dropped his third straight loss – another of which also came from a Catalan, as Robin’s older brother Rene defeated Rahardian by way of unanimous decision back in July of 2018.
The 28-year-old Filipino wushu artist was in full control all throughout the bout, displaying an array of combinations to stun Rahardian.
Besides his striking display, Catalan also showed his improved grappling, taking down Rahardian with ease – including a thunderous slam during the third canto.
Catalan is coming from a submission via rear naked choke loss to strawweight contender Hayato Suzuki last October.
