One Asian quota spot left in KBL as Avan Nava signs with Seoul Samsung

Another Filipino-Canadian guard is headed to the Korean Basketball League.

Avan Nava, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Mississauga, Ontario, has signed with Seoul Samsung for the upcoming 2023-24 KBL season.

Nava played three years for St. Francis Xavier University, putting up averages of 14.9 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.

For the Thunder, they finally get their Asian import after failed attempts at William Navarro and Justine Baltazar last year.

Christian David, meanwhile, was hampered was injury and was relegated to Seoul Samsung’s developmental squad.

Nava becomes the second Filipino brought to the KBL by Fil-Can Nation Select, bringing Calvin Epistola to Jeonju KCC last year.

Besides the two, other Filipino in the KBL are SJ Belangel (Daegu KOGAS), Rhenz Abando (Anyang JungKwangJang), Dave Ildefonso (Suwon KT), Juan Gomez de Liano (Seoul SK), Justin Gutang (Changwon LG), Ethan Alvano (Wonju DB), and Joshua Torralba (Goyang Sono).

Only Ulsan Hyundai Mobis has yet to enlist an Asian import for the season.
