All that Magoo Marjon prepared for Sunday’s PBA action is providing color commentary. But little did he know he’d dabble into something unusual.
As the flight of the PBA’s technical team from Cagayan De Oro to Manila got delayed for three hours, the league had to make do with what they have, just to ensure the 4:30 game between TNT and NorthPort will get rolling.
So that meant Marjon had to do barker duties, which is totally weird knowing that he’d always been heard on television as a commentator and as an anchor.
But it wasn’t just him who had to do double duties that Sunday.
Female referee Mao Orioste and technical and operations officer Junior Bengua were also with Marjon — who started his career with RadyoPBA back in 2004 and later on, became a courtside reporter in 2008 — in the officials’ table, keeping track of the stats and game time.
They did their respective tasks in the entire first half of the game, as the league’s personnel arrived at the SMART Araneta Coliseum during the second quarter of the game, which the KaTropa eventually won, 104-102.
Based on social media posts particularly on Twitter, the feedback on Marjon’s role as a barker has been good so far, most of them telling that listening to him call out games as a PA announcer is a refreshing sound to hear.
Still, that Sunday evening had been odd.
