Reigning four-time Philippine Cup champions San Miguel Beermen commenced their preparations for the new PBA season on Wednesday morning, but new acquisition Terrence Romeo has yet to join his new team.
Romeo – whom the Beermen got through a trade with the TNT KaTropa in exchange for Brian Heruela, David Semerad, and a future first-round draft pick – has been asked by team management to report in Thursday’s practice.
Incoming sophomore Christian Standhardinger has also yet to return to the Beermen, as he asked for an extension of his vacation. The 6-foot-8 forward, who played continuously for over a year, is currently in Germany.
However, the Beermen’s famed starting five – Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross, and reigning four-time league Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo – all attended Wednesday’s light session.
Another new acquisition, Paul Zamar, was present as well. Paul, son of SMB assistant coach Boycie, got into the Beermen’s realms through a trade with the Blackwater Elite in exchange for a pair of future second-round picks.
San Miguel look to win their fifth straight all-Filipino title. The league’s 44th season will open on January 13.
