The Ateneo de Manila University will not field a team in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.
Multiple sources from within the league told Tiebreaker Times that they are very certain that the Katipunan-based squad will not join the PVL for the first time in a long while.
Newly-minted Lady Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro said that the timing was off, as classes start in Ateneo right at the onset of the tournament.
Many players from both men’s and women’s side are now just getting back into school.
Given that both squads are set to field numerous rookies, the university saw it prudent to not join the conference.
“We’re still awaiting an official announcement from Ateneo. But that’s what I’ve been told,” Almadro said.
The Blue Eagles are three-time defending champions in the men’s division, while the Lady Eagles are fixtures in the league – having won the tournament twice in 2011 and 2012.
