The National Collegiate Athletic Association is indefinitely postponing all volleyball action for its senior division starting Friday amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
“NCAA is temporarily suspending the games for Senior Division starting 14 February 2020 as a precautionary measure on the COVID 2019,” Management Committee Chair Peter Cayco said in a statement.
Resumption of games shall be announced at a later date.
“We shall advise you of the new schedule as soon as it becomes available,” the statement added. “While we are mindful of the importance of holding the games, the health of our students is our top priority.”
The league’s decision came a week after its suspension of all high school events. It was also on the heels of the announcement of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines to postpone its second-semester events.
With this, the two remaining playdates of the men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments have been cancelled.
The matches between San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines, and College of St. Benilde and Mapua would have been the action on Friday.
The clashes between St. Benilde and Arellano, which will decide the Final Four format in the women’s division, as well as a pair of showdown between Letran and San Sebastian, would have been played on Monday.
