The 10 member schools of the National Collegiate Athletic Association have banded together in the country’s fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Spearheaded by Season 95 host Arellano University, the league has raised PHP 500,000 and are set to purchase personal protective equipment for medical frontliners in hospitals around Metro Manila.
“As the oldest collegiate tournament in the country, we’re extending our help to our brave frontliners who are fighting COVID-19,” NCAA Season 95 Chairman Peter Cayco’s statement read.
The PPEs are set to arrive this week and will be distributed immediately.
This is on top of the relief operations also being done by Arellano, College of Saint Benilde, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Jose Rizal University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Mapua University, San Beda University, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
Last March 19, the Grand Old League officially terminated Season 95. And it is still unknown whether the scheduled August opening of Season 96, which is hosted by Letran, will still push through.
But for the meantime, Cayco and the rest of the league’s management committee are calling everyone to remain patient in this trying time.
“We are one in hoping and praying that this will be over soon.”
