Bren Esports pulled off the biggest upset of the season, dealing ECHO its second loss via a 2-0 sweep in MPL Philippines Season Nine, Saturday evening.
By putting the clamps on Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s Fanny, Bren Esports managed to hold off the ECHO train and take a dominant 19-11 Game One win in 16 minutes and 41 seconds.
Things turned to Bren Esports’ side after a kill on Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera’s Jawhead past the 7th minute allowed the team to take an uncontested Cryoturtle. Bren Esports then turned to KarlTzy’s purple buff where they took out Frediemar “3MarTzy” Serafico’s Esmeralda to kick-start the snowball.
Bren Esports took off from there and never looked back. The team also held KarlTzy to just four purple buffs in the entire game.
Vincent “JOY BOY” De Guzman’s Chou starred in the Game One win a game-high 11 assists along with three kills and four deaths while Marco “SUPER MARCO” Requitano (Clint) played his best game so far with six kills and eight assists against one death.
Game Two was much closer than the opener.
But Bren Esports, despite almost losing hold of the match, took the win after surviving ECHO’s comeback attempt in Game Two.
With the top-ranked squad starting to gain momentum, Bren Esports claimed the lead anew through a kill on Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales (Yu Zhong) and Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s Paquito to hold off the siege.
From there, Bren Esports bagged the next Lord and sealed the sweep.
SUPER MARCO took charge in the win with nine kills and seven assists against two deaths on Harith while JOY BOY recorded 14 assists laced with a kill and four deaths in the 19-12 Game Two win in 19 minutes and 54 seconds.
Bren Esports improved its tally to five points with a 2-7 standing. Meanwhile, ECHO still held the pole position with 18 points and a 6-2 slate.
The M2 World Champions will face RSG PH on Friday at 6:00 PM while ECHO will return tomorrow against Omega Esports at 8:00 PM.
