Though he has mellowed down after three years of being away from competitive basketball, Metta World Peace’s fire is still there.
The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year helped Bong Ulep call the shots Thursday afternoon during FilAm Sports’ knockout Fantastic Eight showdown with the San Beda Red Cubs-Manila.
And after seeing a few calls that he did not like, the now-39-year-old, who had a career 77 techs called on him during his 15-year NBA career, was slapped with a technical foul with 3:31 left in the second frame.
FilAm Sports ended up getting eliminated, 91-97.
It’s this competitive spirit that he wants his son Jeron to have as he enters the collegiate level.
“I’m not one of the parents that are gonna be there all the time talking to the coach that my son is playing for and say, ‘Let my son play.’ I’m just not that type of parent,” he said.
“I always tell my son to earn it.”
