Meralco is going for youth in next month’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Bolts on Friday announced that they will be parading 24-year-old Feron Hunt as their import for the opening conference of Season 48.
“We are delighted to welcome Feron Hunt to the Meralco Bolts family,” team manager Paolo Trillo said in a statement.
“The team has been hard at work since the last season ended, and we look forward to reinforcing our lineup with Feron when the PBA begins this October.”
Listed at 6-foot-8, the New Orleans-native is coming off a stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The Southern Methodist University product has been in the G-League since going undrafted in 2021, having played for the Texas Legends, Westchester Knicks by way of the New York Knicks, and the Birmingham Squadron.
Now, he reinforces a Meralco side looking to redeem themselves in the Commissioner’s Cup after failing to advance in the previous edition.
Looking back, the Bolts went 1-5 to start the conference with Johnny O’Bryant as their import. They brought in KJ McDaniels in a last-ditch attempt to make the playoffs and won three of their last six games, but fell short.
Meralco is looking to build on the gains they had from the PBA On Tour, where they finished as the fourth-best team of the preseason with a 7-4 card.
