Mark Yee, Davao Occidental give Muntinlupa rude MPBL exit

BATANGAS — Davao Occidental-Cocolife sent Muntinlupa-Angelis Resort home on a crushing note, 106-90, in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go/MPBL Lakan Cup, Wednesday at the Batangas State University.

Entering the second half with just a four-point advantage, 47-43, the Tigers stepped on the gas. They then unleashed a 26-7 run behind Mark Yee and Emman Calo to put up a 26-point cushion, 73-50, with 3:01 remaining in the third frame.

The Tigers never let the Cagers reach striking distance. They even led by as big as 28 points, 96-68, after Ronald Lamocha’s two free throws with 5:17 left in the final frame.

“It’s good that our second group played well. We need them to play with confidence going into the playoffs. Yeah… We’ve been missing them in the past few games, so hopefully, they keep it going,” said Davao Occidental head coach Don Dulay.

Yee led all scorers with 25 points on a very efficient 10-of-11 shooting clip to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and a steal.

Calo stepped up for the Tigers with 19 points, four assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Meanwhile, Kenneth Mocon and Chester Saldua added 11 and eight points, respectively, in the victory.

The Cocolife-backed squad now post a 23-4 standing, a game ahead second-running Bacoor in the South Division

On the other hand, GJ Ylagan fired 22 points built on five-three pointers while Edzel Mag-isa added 16 markers.

Muntinlupa ended its campaign with a 7-23 record.
