Mark Striegl suffered his second consecutive loss in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, absorbing a second round knockout loss to Chas Skelly, Sunday morning (Manila time) at the UFC Apex Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It is the Filipino-American’s second straight loss in the top promotion in the world.
Back on October 17, 2020, Striegl was dealt a 51-second defeat at the hands of Said Nurmagomedov.
This time around, he needed to impress or be in danger of being cut by the promotion.
However, the 31st Southeast Asian Games gold medalist in Sambo was outgrappled by the 36-year-old fighting out of Team Takedown from the opening bell.
Striegl tried to bang with Skelly in the second round but it only resulted in trouble.
A left elbow followed by a right knee dropped the native of Baguio City before Skelly put the finishing touches with hammer fists. The bout was called off at the 2:01 mark of the round.
It was the fitt to out on my own terms,” said Skelly, who ended his career with a 19-3 slate. “It’s hard, my body is not holding up the way it used to. It feels wonderful. If they offer me something interesting, maybe I’ll consoider it.
“But I want to do some grappling, I want to focus on a different career,” he continued.
Striegl dropped to 18-4, 1NC.
