After the coronavirus (COVID-19) postponed his much-awaited UFC debut, Mark Striegl is ready for his first match in the octagon.
The Filipino-American grappler will face tougher competition, though, as he takes on Said Nurmagomedov in the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie on October 18, 2020. The bout takes place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
Striegl, who owns an 18-2 1NC record, moved to Las Vegas a couple of months ago as he tried to secure a UFC contract.
The 32-year-old 2019 SEA Games gold medalist in combat sambo received a four-fight deal that was supposed to begin last August 22 against fellow newcomer Timur Valiev. However, Striegl contracted COVID-19, forcing him to back out of the bout.
This time around, he will fly to Abu Dhabi to face a three-fight UFC vet.
Said, a cousin of UFC World Lightweight Champion Khabib, is coming off a loss against Raoni Barcelos last December.
The 28-year-old Russian holds a 13-2 record.
