The pressure is on for Terrence Romeo to deliver, as none other than TNT Katropa team owner Manny V. Pangilinan is setting the bar high for him.
Last Tuesday, Romeo, together with Yousef Taha, was traded from the GlobalPort Batang Pier to TNT in exchange for Mo Tautuaa and a couple of future draft picks.
Thursday afternoon, during the contract signing between Chooks-to-Go and PayMaya held at the PLDT office in Makati City, Bounty Agro Ventures Incorporated president Ronald Mascariñas presented brand ambassador Romeo to Pangilinan.
“Since Terrence is our brand ambassador, we decided to bring him along for our contract signing with PayMaya para ma-meet na rin niya yung new boss niya,” said Mascariñas, whose company is starting to embrace the digital shift to cashless transactions with PayMaya.
This was the first time Pangilinan met his team’s newest acquisition. And Pangilinan is not tempering his expectations of what the 5-foot-11 scoring machine can bring to the table.
“Certainly, he is a welcome addition — talagang lalakas yung team with Terrence here,” shared Pangilinan, who is also the chairman of PayMaya. “I think we have a very formidable backcourt.
“So we’re looking forward to a championship ‘di ba Terrence?”
But familiarity between the Katropa and Romeo won’t be an issue according to Pangilinan, as the former FEU Tamaraw will be reunited with his former collegiate head coach Nash Racela and teammates in TNT.
“Nagka-reunion yung mga FEU boys from coach Nash and Terrence down to RR Garcia and Roger Pogoy. So, it’s familiar grounds for them,” he pointed out.
Romeo, on the other hand, gushed upon hearing this. For the three-time scoring champion, he plans to match these expectations by going all-out for his new team.
“Kailangan ko lang pagbutihan at kailangan ko gawin yung best ko to reach yung expectation nila boss,” the five-year pro vowed to the two executives.
“‘Pag mag tulong-tulong kami, matutupad namin yun.”
