Magnolia acquires Javi Gomez de Liano in trade with Terrafirma

Javi Gomez de Liano will make his PBA return — not with Terrafirma, but with the Magnolia Hotshots.

The Dyip traded the 6-foot-4 winger to Magnolia in exchange for Jerrick Ahanmisi and a second-round pick in the 2025 PBA Draft.

The transaction was approved on Friday.

After a stint with B.League club Ibaraki, Gomez de Liano entered the 2022 PBA Draft and was selected eighth overall by Ginebra.

The UP product was immediately traded to Terrafirma, where he spent three seasons.

During the 2023–24 season, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, which earned him a contract with KBL team Anyang Jung Kwan Jang.

In his one season with the Red Boosters, he averaged 8.4 points and shot 41% from beyond the arc.

He also suited up for Strong Group-Philippines in the 2025 Jones Cup, where he averaged a stellar 9.5 points on 44.7% shooting from deep with 5.5 rebounds.

However, Gomez de Liano and Anyang JKJ parted ways during the offseason, paving the way for his PBA return—this time with the Hotshots.

The acquisition comes at a timely moment for LA Tenorio, following the departure of William Navarro to KBL team Busan KCC.

Meanwhile, it will also be a change of scenery for Ahanmisi, who spent his first five PBA seasons with Magnolia.
