After a year in the B.League, Javi Gomez de Liaño’s next journey will bring him back home.
The 6-foot-5 winger has submitted his application form to enter the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft just hours before the Saturday deadline of the league.
“I feel like this is right for me to join the draft,” said the 23-year-old out of University of the Philippines.
“Excited for this next journey to play back home.”
Gomez de Liaño signed with B1 team Ibaraki last year after making three appearances with the Gilas in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
In 34 games with the Robots, he averaged 3.3 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest. But in their last eight games, Gomez de Liaño normed 8.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest as he picked up the minutes.
Gomez de Liano tallied a career-best 17 points against Hokkaido just last April 24.
“It has been my dream since I was a kid to play in the PBA,” added Gomez de Liano.
Gomez de Liano will still play his last two games with Ibaraki this weekend against Gunma at Adastria Mito Arena.
The Robots currently have a 15-37 slate.
The PBA Draft is set to take place on May 15 at Robinson’s Malate.
