Madayag out for season after ACL tear

The Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles’ bid for three-peat took a major blow after sophomore middle blocker Maddie Madayag tore her ACL in her right knee yesterday after practice.

A main cog to Ateneo’s lineup, Madayag will sit out the rest of the season according to team manager Tony Liao.

“She will have surgery during the Holy Week,” Liao said via SMS.

Madayag has been a revelation for last season’s champions. Seldom used in Season 77, she has been a steady presence defending the net and providing an extra scoring option with her powerful running attacks.

The injury happened as Maddayag was going up for a routine running hit in a drill. The Davao native landed awkwardly and cringed in pain. She was immediately rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center.
