Lady Stags cruise past Lady Cardinals for second win

Everyone on the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags’ roster got playing time, as the ladies from Recto swept the Mapua Lady Cardinals, 25-13, 25-17, 25-13, in the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre, San Juan City.

The Lady Stags had the luxury of fielding everyone on the lineup, giving their best players copious amounts of rest after a five-set slobber-knocker in the opening day.

Middle hitter Kath Villegas led all scorers with nine points, while Nikka Dalisay added eight. Both spikers played just two sets. Two-time NCAA MVP Grethcel Soltones needed to score just seven markers.

“Hindi rin sobrang ganda ng nilaro namin. Hindi lang talaga gumalaw ‘yung kalaban namin ngayon siguro. Alam ko naman na may mas maganda pang ilalaro ‘yung players namin,” said Lady Stags’ assistant coach Clint Malazo, who had sat in for head coach Roger Gorayeb.

Now with a 2-0 record, the Lady Stags look to continue rolling when Gorayeb gets back from Japan.

“Lagi talaga kaming mabagal magsimula ng season. Pagbalik ni coach Roger, mas aayos na ang laro namin. Hindi namin importante sa amin kung anong place kami pagkatapos ng elimination round. Basta makabalik kami ng Finals,” Malaza continued.

Open hitter Katrina Racelis led the Lady Cardinals with eight points, while Hazel Sedenio added six.

The Lady Stags (2-0) next take on the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers (2-0) on November 25. The Lady Cardinals (0-2), meanwhile, face the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights (0-1) on November 23.
