Kyoto part ways with Jamie Malonzo after five games

Five games into the B.League season, Kyoto has decided to make changes to its lineup.

The team announced on its official website on Friday that it has parted ways with forward Jamie Malonzo.

In Kyoto’s first five games this season, Malonzo played just 30 minutes in total, averaging 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

The Hannaryz currently sit at 1-4 in the standings.

The 6-foot-7 Filipino-American forward was officially placed on the B.League’s free agent list earlier today.

Malonzo, 29, signed with Kyoto on July 31 after leaving Ginebra.

He spent four years in the PBA before making the move to Japan.

As broken by Tiebreaker Times last August, Malonzo is covered by the three-year ban for players who are offered a Uniform Player Contract but do not sign it, as well as veteran players whose UPCs have expired and who do not sign a new deal with their mother teams.

Also covered by this rule are William Navarro, who moved from Magnolia to Busan KCC; and Arvin Tolentino, who transferred from Northport to Seoul SK.

Malonzo is still part of Tim Cone’s 16-man Gilas pool for the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
