KBL: Abarrientos gets better of Belangel, leads Ulsan Hyundai to third straight win

In their first meeting in the 2022-23 KBL season, RJ Abarrientos continued his excellent start while SJ Belangel showed great heart.

Abarrientos and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis staved off Belangel and Daegu Kogas, taking an 81-71 win to gain their third straight victory, Friday at Daegu Gym.

Abarrientos, a former FEU Tamaraw, led the way for the Phoebus, finishing with 17 points built on three treys with three assists and a steal.

Belangel though was not left behind, overcoming an injury scare in the first half, eventually ending up with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. This was his best outing so far.

Gaige Prim supported Abarrientos with 15 points and five rebounds while Lee Woosuk added 13 points and seven boards as the Phoebus went up to 4-1 for solo second.

Lee Daesung scored 19 points and dished nine assists to lead the way for the 1-4 Pegasus. Youssou Ndoye added 14 points.

Over at Changwon Gym, both Justin Gutang and Rhenz Abando did not play in Anyang KGC’s 83-79 win over Changwon LG.

Both Gutang and Abando are still recovering from injuries and are expected to join their teams after the FIBA break.

KGC remains on top of the standings with a 5-1 record while LG fell to below .500 with a 2-3 mark.
