Parañaque grabbed a piece of the eighth seed after avoiding a collapse against Taguig, 71-63, to cap the weekend games in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
A jumper by Paolo Castro at the 7:37 mark of the fourth salvo gave the Aces a 20-point spread, 68-48.
Then the comeback started for the Generals.
Taguig unleashed 15 unanswered points courtesy of LJ Mayo, Coco Tancioco, Jonathan Lontoc, Noel Santos, and Mike Sampurna to inch within five, 63-68, with 1:18 to go.
However, Parañaque held on with honest defense while also making key shots from the line. They now rise to 3-5, tied with Mindoro for eighth.
Jielo Razon, after going 5-of-29 yesterday, retaliated with a 50 percent outing. He made it 8-of-16 to end with 19 points with nine rebounds, and three steals for the Aces.
Castro made 18 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while Jayboy Solis and Richard Singh both got nine points.
High-leaper Mayo led Taguig with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Lontoc netted 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Generals slid to 5-3, in sixth place.
