Jhaps Bautista, Pasig-Sta. Lucia repeat over Porac, advance to Chooks 3×3 Leg 3 playoffs

CALAMBA, LAGUNA — Pasig Sta. Lucia remains the bane of Big Boss Cement-Porac, taking a 22-19 (9:22.9) win to complete the playoff cast in Leg 3 of the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup powered by TM, Sunday at the INSPIRE Academy here.

Facing off just two days ago during Leg 2 — where the Realtors walloped the Green Gorillas 21-13 in the quarters — Pasig had to change its style.

“Mas tumira kami sa labas. Lagi kami sa ilalim eh, kaya mas sinigurado namin na tumira sa labas,” said Jhaps Bautista.

Bautista had a big 14-point outing, including the game-winning deuce with 37.1 ticks left. He helped Pasig punch its ticket to the next round in this tournament sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board and endorsed by FIBA 3X3.

Pasig will then take on Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City Chooks in the knockout stages.

Zamboanga City completed its sweep of Pool C with a lackadaisical 21-17 (9:39) win over Bacolod-Master Sardines.

Bacolod faces surprise Pool A winners Sarangani.

Nueva Ecija, who defeated the Zamboanga Peninsula Valientes 21-12 (6:35) to reign atop Pool B), takes on sister team Palayan City in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Uling Roasters-Butuan City, who blasted Petra Cement Roxas ZN 21-17 (8:08), squares off against the Valientes.

Besides the knockout tournament that has P100,000 waiting for the victor, the TM side events are also taking place as of publishing.
