James De Los Santos bagged his third consecutive gold in the Sportdata e-Tournament World Series.
The current top e-kata karateka added the third leg of this tournament into his trophy cabinet after defeating Switzerland’s Matias Moreno Dormont, 24.6-24.1, with results coming in Saturday morning (Manila time).
This is De Los Santos’ 51st overall gold, and 15th for the calendar year.
De Los Santos took another title using his favored Unsu form. That put himself in the narrow win over the Swiss’ Ohan Dai for his 13th gold of the year.
The 31-year-old dominated both Norway’s Ventor Gjuka, 25-23.8; and Wales’ Ryan Moore, 24.8-23, in the first two rounds to advance into the quarterfinals.
De Los Santos then outclassed England’s David Brierly, 25.2-24. He later edged out Ireland’s Hugh Connolly, 24.8-24.1, to book his ticket to the gold medal match.
On his part, Moreno Dormont had to deal with South Africa’s Silvio Cerone-Biagoni in the other semifinal in a close encounter, 24.1-23.8, to set up the showdown of the top two e-kata karateka in the Finals.
