James De Los Santos plucks 41st e-kata gold

After registering his personal best, James De Los Santos’ streak extends his golden run to five this year and 41 wins since September of last year.

The 31-year-old veteran internationalist reached the milestone after narrowly taking down USA’s Alfredo Bustamante, 24.9-24.6, in the finals of the first leg of the Budva Winner Aria Cup with results coming on Friday afternoon.

Using his winning kata, Unsu, the two-time ISKF world champion showed his mastery of the form to get the nod from the judges against the American’s Ohan. He then walked away with another gold.

De Los Santos earlier received a bye in the first round before defeating Amund Hillestad of Norway in the semifinals. The Filipino dominated the young Norwegian, 25.3 on Sansai against the latter’s 22.8 with Suparinpei.

Maharlika Karatedo Kai of the Philippines Inc.’s Fatima A-Isha Hamsain also continued her winning streak. She bagged yet another gold over Jelizaveta Vasiljeva of Latvia, 24-23.4, in the female U16 division

Christina Colonia, also of MKKPI, finished second in the female U18 division. Germany’s Lea Gomolka took the gold with the latter’s 23-22.7 victory.
