To say that James De Los Santos is on a roll is an understatement, as the veteran internationalist pocketed two more golds.
The 30-year-old karateka moved closer to number one after taking the 1st Euro Grand Prix E-Tournament and the e-Karate Games #2 titles just minutes apart, Sunday evening.
In the Euro Grand Prix, De Los Santos edged out South Africa’s Silvio Cerone-Biagioni, 24.6-24.3, delivering yet another performance of Unsu.
The seasoned karateka earlier defeated Luxembourg’s Kevin Petry, 24-22.6, using Suparinpei in the quarterfinals. De Los Santos then repeated over Switzerland’s Matias Moreno Domont, 24.4-23.6, in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal contest.
The two-time ISKF World Champion then added another gold by winning 24.3-23 over Brazil’s Alves Murillo in the second edition of e-Karate Games 2020 for shotokan style. Using Unsu yet again, the Filipino powered through against the South American’s Gankaku.
His teammates Julia Ian Marcos and Fatima A-Isha Hamsain also continued to make waves in the series after taking medals as well.
Hamsain slipped past Denmark’s Giselle Janse Van Rensburg to take the female U-16 gold in the e-Karate Games second edition. On her part, Marcos bagged another silver after absorbing a narrow defeat in the Euro Grand Prix female U-21 event against Australia’s Keira Sanft.
The win of De Los Santos pushes him to a probable world number 1 ranking. Both of his points from wins in the Okinawa and Euro Grand Prix tournaments are yet to be counted.
