Through five games in the 2024 Smart NBTC National Finals, Jacob Bayla has proven that he’s as good as advertised.
On his journey back to the Finals, the 6-foot-5 stalwart from Fil-Am Nation Select averaged 11.8 points on an efficient 66.7-percent shooting.
The forward from Norwalk, California, isn’t just pleased to have a chance at a championship, but also to simply play in the Philippines.
“It’s always fun to play in the Philippines, in front of my family and friends. It’s just a great environment, and whenever I come to the Philippines, I feel that love for the game, and people support me all the way.”
In their 81-72 semifinal win against Batang Tiaong, Bayla scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Despite questions about whether he’ll play in the UAAP, with interest from UP and a recent visit to Ateneo, Bayla says his main goal is to play at home.
“I’m just going to go back to the States and play AAU. I hope to garner some interest or offers,” Bayla shared.
However, the 18-year-old noted that choosing to suit up in the Philippines is not off the table.
“If I don’t receive interest in the States, I’ll announce soon if I will come here to the Philippines,” Bayla shared.
