Isa Molde deflects all credit to teammates for first MVP

There was genuine shock on Isa Molde’s face when she found out that she was the PVL Collegiate Conference’s Most Valuable Player.

Within the University of the Philippines’ system, everyone is treated equally. No one’s a star, no one’s an MVP.

Molde emphasized this in her press conference. She truly believes that her individual success has sprouted from their team values.

“Siyempre ‘di ko makukuha ito without my teammates kasi hindi lang naman ako yun nagwo-work para rito kundi pati sila. Siguro idi-dedicate ko ito sa teammates ko and sa coaching staff,” admitted the fourth-year open spiker, who averaged 15.4 points per match in the elimination round.

“Hindi ako ang nagdala (sa team). Sobrang thankful din na nakapasok kami sa Finals kasi preparation na rin ito para sa UAAP. Siguro sobrang importante nito sa team namin.”

Hours before Game Two – their potential title-clinching match against the FEU Lady Tamaraws – the 20-year-old stayed loose, not letting the MVP award get into her head.

“Siguro hindi na lang iisipin na may nangyari kasi kapag lalo mong iisipin siguro mapi-pressure ka lang to do good and mas mahihirapan ka lang. Nandiyan naman ang teammates ko to help din kung ano man ang mangyayari mamaya.”
