Afro no more, perhaps.
Having sported an afro-like hairdo ever since the 2018 Philippine Cup, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s star forward Japeth Aguilar has ditched it and tried something new.
On Wednesday night, the 6-foot-9 stood out even more as he rocked twisties, similar to what Ginebra teammate Joe Devance and Gilas Pilipinas naturalized center Andray Blatche have.
“I’ve been intrigued for a long time na and ngayon ko lang na-try,” explained the 31-year-old of his decision to make funky changes to his crowning glory.
“Ayun. I just decided to give it a go.”
The one who did his twisties is known as @dreadydreadking on Instagram, as per Aguilar’s IG post. Aguilar added that he learned of him through Devance, who regularly has his hair braided.
“Last Monday… yung ano ni Joe [yung gumawa],” said the Kapampangan cager, who has always rocked a semi-bald hairdo ever since his college days with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Aguilar’s braided ‘do looks like some sort of a lucky charm.
Aguilar and Ginebra extended their winning streak to three as they trampled the Columbian Dyip, 134-107, to give themselves a good chance for the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.
The second-generation cager had himself a good outing, too, as he collected 19 points on 7-of-11 field goal shooting, along with seven rebounds and an assist in over 23 minutes.
“If it’s suwerte, I’ll take it,” shared Aguilar.
“I’ll take it as suwerte, we needed it din eh.”
