Games and Amusements Board Chairman Baham Mitra has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The 51-year-old sportsman is currently in a quarantine facility in Puerto Princesa for the next 14 days.
This was confirmed by his brother Jorge, Tuesday evening.
“Our family is requesting prayers of recovery for our youngest brother, Philippine Games and Amusement Board Chairman Baham,” read Jorge’s post.
“In Palawan and for the sports world, he is your brother too.”
Since holding the top post in GAB in 2016, Mitra has made professionalizing sports and the athletes his top priority. He has also been the watchdog for illicit activities in sports like booking and gambling.
The past year has been a busy one for Mitra. He always made sure to be present in pro leagues like the PBA, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3, PFL, NBL-Pilipinas, boxing events, and the like. He also always reminded everyone inside the pro bubbles to practice proper health protocols.
This case proves that no one is safe from this virus.
“Baham has always followed all safety protocols, especially in his recent travels to other provinces in connection with his work. We believe his infection may be the new and more infectious Covid-19 variant,” said Jorge.
