Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno was on the verge of quitting the MPL scene entirely to pursue his studies after a disastrous Season Eight campaign that saw Bren Esports – the reigning world champions at the time – finish last in the regular season and miss the playoffs.
It was indeed a hard time for the 17-year-old wunderkind, who was once considered as one of the best players in the world after a stellar performance in the M2 World Championship.
On Saturday night, KarlTzy played his first game for ECHO – leading the team to a quick 2-0 win against his former squad. And despite being on the losing side of things, David “Flap” Canon could not help but be happy after seeing his good pal thriving in his new home.
“Para sa akin masaya kasi parehas pa kaming nasa MPL e,” said Flap during Bren Esports’ post-match press conference.
“Parehas pa naming gagalingan lalo, bahala na kung sino mag-champion sa amin kasi matagal pa naman yung season e,” he added.
Flap and KarlTzy formed a formidable 1-2 punch for Bren Esports back in Season Six. Together, they produced an MPL title for the franchise along with the M3 World Championship on top of a couple of local championships.
And while the partnership lasted for just three seasons, Flap was just glad to finally see his friend in a place where he can reignite his passion.
Flap’s Bren Esports and KarlTzy’s ECHO will meet again on March 19, Saturday at 6:00 PM.
