FIBA: Fontecchio takes charge as Italy shocks Serbia


Simone Fontecchio was a man on fire as Italy came back to overcome Serbia 78-76 in Group I of the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Fontecchio scored 30 points and he made the crucial jumper with 33 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Azzurri a 78-74 edge to seal the win.

Both teams will return to action this Sunday. Italy will take on Puerto Rico while Serbia shall face the Dominican Republic.
