Bren Esports bounced back big time after losing its debut match against defending world champion ECHO, winning its last five games via sweep to the second spot in the MPL Philippines Season 11 regular season.
Since the team’s first loss, the M2 world champion dispatched Omega Esports, Nexplay EVOS, TNC, RSG PH, and Blacklist International to move to 5-1 in the standings – just a game behind the league-leading ECHO.
And a big part of the team’s hot start is the improved play coming from sophomore Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, who emerged as one of the best roamers in the first round of the MPL Philippines Season 11.
Owgwen shared that the experiences he gained from last season played a huge role in the team’s ascent this season.
“Siguro last season, rookie season ko pa so parang baguhan pa lang ako sa liga kaya medyo rough start kami nun. Pero ngayon ginagamit ko na yung experience ko from last season,” said Owgwen after Bren Esports’ 2-0 sweep of Blacklist International on Friday evening.
The 21-year-old roamer struggled early in his rookie year but eventually found a way to turn it around late in the regular season.
That alone sparked Bren Esports’ playoffs campaign where they scored a stunning reverse sweep over favorites Omega Esports before losing to Blacklist International and RSG Slate PH in two consecutive tight series which ended their run at fourth place – their highest since Season Seven.
Despite their impressive early run, Owgwen said that the best is yet to come for Bren Esports as he believes that the team has yet to reach its full potential this season.
“Hindi pa talaga. Kasi hindi pa namin nalalabas yung isang daang porsyento naming lakas.”
