Ernesto Guzman Jr rules Poomsae Worlds U50 event

The Philippine national taekwondo team collected five medals, one of which gold, at the conclusion of the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Goyang, South Korea.

Ernesto Guzman Jr., the 2020 world champion in the recognized individual male under-40 event, bagged the gold this time in the under-50 event.

Guzman edged out South Korean Kim Hakdong, 7.81-7.70, in the gold medal match to take his first gold in the said age category.

Two silvers were added as Ian Matthew Corton and Maria Nicole Labayne, and Kobe Macario and Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, took runners-up honors in the recognized pair junior and freestyle pair over-17 categories, respectively.

Reigning Asian champion Darius Venerable and Southeast Asian Games titleholder Rodolfo Reyes Jr. chipped in two bronzes in the freestyle individual male over-17 and recognized individual male under-30, in that order.

The result of one gold-two silvers-two bronzes saw the Philippines end in the sixth spot, just two silvers and two bronzes below Iran.

South Korea topped the medal standings with a 20-6-2 medal haul.
