Domeng’s tears flow as playoff loss ends family promise


The MPL Philippines playoffs once again hosted a roller coaster ride of emotions, with several broken hearts left in the wake of the emerging champion.

On Tuesday, it was MINANA Evos who suffered the first heartbreak after failing to complete a comeback and succumbing to a 3-2 loss at the hands of Blacklist International.

As the match ended, the usually composed and silent Jan “Domeng” Delmundo was visibly trying hard to hold back his tears.

As the broadcast interview ended, he just couldn’t hold back the emotions anymore backstage.

“Nag-promise po ako kasi sa family na ipapanalo namin yung game,” Domeng told Tiebreaker Times, almost bursting into tears once again.

“Nakita ko po kasi sila eh na parang nalungkot. Kaya na-down na rin ako. Pinipigilan ko po iniyak nun pero di ko kinaya kaya nalabas ko po.”

What happened in the winding moments of the closeout match actually added to how painful the loss was for Domeng. They had just stolen an objective and looked primed for a comeback, only for Blacklist to pull off a surprising ambush to complete the game-winning push.

“Di ko rin talaga inexpect na matatower lock nila yung base. Parang di kami nakasuntok ganun,” he explained.

This heartbreak will forever be etched in Domeng’s memories as he strives to perform better in the upcoming seasons.

“Napaka memorable sakin tong nangyaring to. Sa mga sunod na season, babawi talaga ako. Babawi talaga kami.”
