2016 FIVB Women's CWC

Daquis pleads for continuity in National Team program

The selection of the Magnificent Seven for the PSL-F2 Logistics Manila team that participated in the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship was hyped tremendously.

Over three weeks, Rachel Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Jaja Santiago, Kim Fajardo, Jen Reyes, Ces Molina, and Mika Reyes were given golden tickets one after the other in PSL events.

Although they had played with foreign reinforcements, each player was given their chance to shine and share the court against the best players in the world.

Skipper Rachel Daquis asked for the continual development of the Magnificent Seven during the closing of the Women’s CWC. The Philippine Army veteran said she had asked PSL management to keep the seven on board for future National Team endeavors and to just add other players.

“Maganda na ‘yung sinumulan natin. This time, sana magtuloy-tuloy na. Itong nabuong Magnificent Seven, huwag nang buwagin,” Daquis after the PSL selection bowed out in last place.

2017 promises to be a busy year, with the AVC Women’s Seniors tournament and the SEA Games on deck. Daquis hopes that the preparation for these events will be longer and more strenuous.

“Ang laki nang chance na binigay sa amin. I hope na hindi dito matapos ‘yung suporta. Sa mga susunod na competetions, mas maaga makakabuo ng team, mas matagal na makakapag-prepare and magiging mas maganda ‘yung resulta.”
