Another future Hall of Famer will be a global ambassador for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Carmelo Anthony was unveiled as the third ambassador for the global showpiece set from August 25 to September 10, joining Argentina’s Luis Scola and Spain’s Pau Gasol.
And Anthony is one of the most decorated basketball players to ever grace the international game.
In 2004, the product of Syracuse made his Team USA debut in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
It was a dark moment in USA Basketball history as it only copped bronze. Ditto for the 2006 FIBA World Cup.
What came next was a redemption tour for Anthony and Team USA.
With Anthony leading the way, Team USA rampaged through the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship, the 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London), and 2016 (Rio de Janeiro) Summer Olympics.
All in all, Anthony is the leading scorer and rebounder in Team USA history.
He ended his international career with averages of 13.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 48 games played.
