Just a few days ago, Chot Reyes missed his first PBA playoffs after 21 years after leading TNT to a 4-8 record.
This comes just two weeks after he steered Gilas Pilipinas to a sweep of Window 5.
And even Reyes admitted that it has become hard for him to juggle two big-time jobs at the same time.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio bared during the launch of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Volunteers Program that he plans on talking to the MVP Group’s powers-that-be regarding the matter.
Moreover, it has become an urgent matter as Gilas will have a loaded calendar next year while TNT will still have its Governors’ Cup campaign.
“That’s something we need to address. It’s unfair to him, the national team, and even TNT. I’m the president of that company.
“It’s something that we should address but we must first talk to the governor of TNT and chairman of the PBA Ricky Vargas. I’ll also have a consultation with MVP [Manny V. Pangilinan] on how to move forward,” said Panlilio.
It’s not just Window 6 and the World Cup proper which Gilas will compete in next year. Also on the table are the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games.
And most likely, TNT will have an interim coach next year.
“It’s a jampacked calendar next year. Technically, Chot will be up to his head sa national team program pa lang,” continued Panlilio.
“We have to decide on how we can handle the TNT situation at least up to that moment.”
