Capilit shuts door on Stan Quezon as Taguig scores bounce back WNBL win

Taguig overcame a sloppy start to outlast Stan Quezon, 58-50, in the 2021 Pia Cayetano WNBL season, Saturday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The Lady SparTANs dominated the first quarter, leading 16-8, but the Lady Generals answered back with a 19-9 second period to enter halftime ahead by two, 27-25.

Taguig’s Jeline Batnag and Marichu Bacaro put up four straight points to begin the fourth period to lead by nine, 49-40.

But a layup by Kath Araja punctuated a 7-1 blitz for Quezon to go within four, 47-51, with 4:33 left on the clock.

However, the Lady Generals had one last run in them. A quick 5-0 run capped by back-to-back baskets by Tin Capilit put Taguig ahead by nine, 56-47.
